Today's Special Gluten Free !

Cupcake shop jpeg gf.jpgWe were working our way around Wallingford this afternoon  when I spotted the sign in the window of The Glorious Bakeshop in Wallingford.  Unfortunately we were too late as all the gluten free cupcakes had gone, but we had a chat with the owner who told us that gluten free cupcakes were made fresh every morning.  This little shop has only just opened a few months ago and I am so delighted to know that  this lovely lady has had the foresight and imagination to include gluten free cakes in her repertoire. Everything is home made and not only do they look gorgeous, but from hearsay I gather they are completely delicious.  If you are planning to be in the area it might be a good idea to ring ahead so she can put one or two aside for you. Wallingford is a charming market town in Oxfordshire and is well worth a visit if you happen to be in the area.  Henley, Abingdon, Oxford and Ewelme are all nearby.  For more information you can contact them directly on +44 (0)1491 826 536  or email them at:  contact @thegloriousbakeshop.co.uk.  There is also a website www.thegloriousbakeshop.co.uk

Yay!

So good to see that people are starting to take allergies seriously. Now they just need to do egg free and dairy free cakes to suit my daughter and others like her!

Taking Allergies Seriously

I know what you mean, but there is still a long way to go.  A friend who's daughter has a very serious nut allergy was telling me about her daughter who recently ended up in hospital with a very severe reaction.  This in spite of her having asked the restaurant about all of the ingredients in the dishes she selected and being told it would be suitable.  20 minutes later she collapsed and was rushed to hospital. It's such a fine line between being able to live a normal life and making sure that you take adequate precautions and basically giving up on ever having a meal outside your own home.
